Composting
The natural break down of organic material which produces a product that can be used on the garden as a compost. More information of home composting can be found on the Gunge Tank page.


Household waste
All of the waste produced by you and your family.


Kerbside collection
The waste collection in which you can place your bin out on a day of the week. This type of collection is also sometimes referred to as door-to-door collection.


Landfill site
This is a big hole in the ground where our rubbish is put.


Recycling
Turning rubbish back to its original form so it can be made into new things. For example your metal drinks can may be converted into another can or into any number of other items.


Energy from Waste
Burning any excess material that cannot be reused or recycled in order to generate electricity.


Reuse
Instead of throwing things into your bin, ask if you can use it again or give it to someone else to use again. For example take an old empty plastic bag to carry your shopping, or give any toys you do not play with any more to a charity shop.
