Recycle Blast Off
Recycling and composting in the Bradford district

Recycling is now seen as the normal thing to do with waste, with more and more people doing their bit to look after the place where they live. Together we must recycle to help reduce the amount of rubbish we produce.

Recycling at Home

Recycling at home

Recycling at home is really simple and it is something that can involve the whole family. The Council provides kerbside recycling services for different materials and types of housing, including:

  • Green garden waste.
  • Paper, glass and cans recycling.
  • High rise flats paper recycling.
  • Rural paper recycling.

Biodegradeable

Biodegradable Waste

Bradford Council currently collects garden waste via its green bag scheme on its normal collection service from approximately 100,000 homes.

The green garden waste includes grass cuttings, prunings, leaves etc which are collected on a four week cycle. By using the green bags residents are able to increase recycling in the district, whilst reducing the amount sent to landfill that would otherwise generate methane gas.

Home composting - By composting at home you can reduce the amount of rubbish you put out for collection, whilst returning important nutrients and minerals to your soil. The Council in partnership with WRAP (Waste Resource Action Programme) are providing compost bins from just £8, including delivery. To order your Bin call 0845 077 0757 quoting Bradford or visit us online at www.recyclenow.com/compost order online To receive a further £1.00 off your Total order.

Glass recycling

Glass and Metal Recycling

The Council is gradually introducing an insert for the existing paper recycling bin, which will allow you to recycle glass and cans in the same bin as paper. The recycling bin insert is designed to minimise the amount of space required at households, whilst allowing residents to recycle more materials.

The insert is used inside the paper bin to recycle all types of glass and cans listed below:

Recycling in Flats

Recycling in flats

The Council in partnership with Bradford Housing Trust is currently running a trial in some flats in the district to help people to recycle paper more easily. Residents have received a blue bag, in which they can put out paper for collection.

All the paper collected is recycled in to new paper products for people to use in the future.

Rural houses

Rural paper recycling

A service has been introduced for those living in rural properties to recycle paper. These properties have been provided with a blue bag, which is collected from the roadside on a four weekly basis.

After emptying, the bags are placed back at the point of collection for use again.
